Unlock 4.0 guidelines: Metro resumes from Sept 7; extends lockdown in containment zones

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry issued the guidelines for Unlock 4.0 on August 29. Under these guidelines, metro rail services will resume from September 7, across the country in a graded manner while lockdown in containment zones will be extended till September 30. However, schools, colleges and other educational institutes will remain close till September 30. Also, cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks and theatres will continue to remain closed.

At the same time, the ministry has also directed the state government to not impose any local lockdown outside the containment zones without prior consultation with the central government. Under the guidelines, social, academic, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious, and other functions will be allowed with a minimum of 100 people from September 21.

At the same time, confirming that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will restart its services. It said, "As per the latest guidelines, Delhi Metro will be resuming its services for the public from 7 September 2020 onwards in a calibrated manner. Details on the Metro functioning & its usage will be shared once the detailed SOP on Metros is issued by MoHUA." Besides Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, Kolkata and other cities are also likely to resume metro services.

Use of mask and smart card has been made mandatory while the token system will be completely shut to avoid contact because it can increase the spread of coronavirus. In the meantime, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "I am glad that metro has been permitted to start its operations from 7 Sep in a phased manner."
