Open API service introduced for Aarogya Setu app

New Delhi:  India's mobile app ‘Aarogya Setu’ which depicts the whole idea in its name itself which means a bridge for liberation from diseases became a part of more than 100 million users lives within 40 days of its coming. Aarogya Setu app has now started a new technological solution in order to help businesses and the economy to start functioning while being safe. The new Open API Service will enable organizations to check the status of the Aarogya Setu app of their employees and integrate it into its various Work from Home features.

API stands for Application Programming Interface. These services provide a program with a description of how to interact with a system in order to retrieve and/or change the data within it. This Open API Service of Aarogya Setu, addresses the risk of COVID-19 infections and will assist businesses and the economy to return to normalcy. The API system allows computer programs, mobile applications, and web services to make use of the features and data available in Aarogya Setu.

Aarogya Setu is has been an Indian open-source COVID–19 app which is designed with system of contact tracing, syndromic mapping and self-assessment. This digital service was developed by the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.


The new service introduces can be availed by organizations and business entities, which are registered in India with more than 50 employees. Organizations, with this, can easily check the health status of their employees on a real time basis using new technology.


Aarogya Setu was launched on April 2, 2020. Since then it has been powering India’s fight against COVID-19.  The app has now emerged as the most downloaded contact tracing app in the world, with more than 15 crore users. Until now, the app consisted of features that defines User Status by telling the risk of getting COVID-19 and and allows self assessment helping the users identify COVID-19 symptoms and their risk profile.

Also, the app remained well updated on COVID-19 count giving a clear idea on local and national COVID-19 cases as well. An E-pass integration facility was also available on the all. One can apply through the app for their e-passes. One can also see recent contacts option in the apl allowing the users to asses the risk level of their Bluetooth contacts. The app defined how many COVID-19 positive cases are likely in a radius of 500 m, 1 km, 2 km, 5 km and 10 km from the user.
