Amritsar Train accident: 61 died and more than 70 injured

Lucknow. On the occassion of Vijay Dashmi Amritsar experienced a tragic rail accident and the whole country met a big grief and loss. On Friday night, people gathered at Joda Phatak in Amritsar where the Ravan's effigy was about to burn near the phatak, to get a better view of it people stood up on the tracks and in the huge rush and noise the crowd ignored the train's arrival indications.


Two trains mowed down the mass gathered on the track on Friday night, the First train Jalandher-Amritsar DMU ran over them whereas the Second train Amritsar-Howarah Express, ran over those who jumped on the second set of the tracks to escape the first.The train was coming from Jalandhar and heading towards Amritsar. According to the reports approximately 61 people died and more than 70 were injured in the accident. the injured were admited in the Gurunanak Dev government hospital Amritsar for the treatment.

Punjab Chief Minister Captaion Amarinder Singh visited the spot the next day of the accident  (Saturday morning), also he visited the hospital to meet the injured and their family.

Former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu was the chief guest of the program held on 19 October 2018 in Amritsar. The accident is estimated as the result of the carelessness of the railway officials as well  as the organisers of the program.

Chief Minister Caption Amarinder Singh announces One day mourning across the State, also the State Government has announced to give compensation of Rupees 5 Lakhs to the families of the people who died in the accident.
