New Delhi, Jul 27: The Income Tax Department on Thursday extended the last date for filing tax returns by one month.
The deadline for filing the income tax returns has been extende from July 31 to August 31, the Income Tax Department said in a statement.
This will bring the relief for taxpayers have not filed their tax returns as from this year, as per budget provisions, later filing of tax returns will receive a penalty of up to Rs. 10,000.
Archit Gupta, founder and CEO, ClearTax, said, “While return filing due date has been extended, taxpayers are still unsure about how penalty applies to them if they cannot file by 31st August. To dispel any confusions, the return extension has been done for taxpayers who had a due date of 31st July. All of them can now file by 31st August.”
