BJP IT cell head tweets Karnataka election dates before official announcement - Newstimes News

New Delhi, Mar 27: The date of Karnataka assembly elections were announced on Tuesday by the Election Commission of India, but BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya tweeted the dates before the election commission, though he tweeted the wrong dates for the counting process and later deleted his tweet.

When asked to Malviya, he said that he got the dates from a news channel because some news channel also flashed the dates before the announcement.

Journalists raised this question at the press conference of chief election commissioner OP Rawat that how a member of a political party had access to such confidential information.

Rawat assured that an investigation will be launched and don’t speculate anything before the investigation as the EC will not handle this matter lightly.

“Certain things may have leaked for which Election Commission will take appropriate action. It will be investigated. Be assured that actions legally and administratively befitting will be taken,” Rawat said.

The assembly elections in Karnataka is on May 12 and counting is on May 15.
