Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati passes away at 82- Newstimes news

Chennai, Feb 28: Jayendra Saraswati, the 69th Shankaracharya Guru of the Kanchipuram Kamakoti Peetam math, has passed away on Wednesday.
According to reports, the 82-year old seer was rushed to a private hospital in the town after he complained of uneasiness.

   Successor of Mahaswami

He had been named as successor to the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam by his predecessor, Chandrashekarendra Saraswati, widely known as the 'Mahaswami' of the math, in 1954.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu condoled the Kanchi seer's demise and recalled the contribution of Shri Jayendra Saraswathi in promoting spirituality.

"Pay my respects to Kanchi peethadhipathi Shri Jayendra Saraswati who attained moksha. His contribution for the welfare of mankind and in promoting spirituality will always be an inspiration for others," he tweeted.

   Acquitted from murder case

He had been acquitted in November 2013 in the case relating to the 2004 murder of A Sankararaman, manager of Kanchipuram's Varadaraja Perumal Temple.
