New Delhi, Feb 9: A report prepared by NITI Aayog on Health Index is topped by Kerala while Uttar Pradesh appeared at the bottom among larger states.

Punjab stood at second followed by Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.

Besides Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and Odisha are among the states that performed poorly in the health index.

“The policy think tank believes that the Health Index will act as a tool to leverage cooperative and competitive federalism, accelerating the pace of achieving health outcomes,” said Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog.

Among small states, Mizoram ranked first, followed by Manipur and Goa.

Throwing light on the issue of health, member of NITI Aayog, Vinod Paul said absolute and incremental changes in health outcomes, as measured by the Health Index, promotes cross-learning between states, capturing the very spirit of cooperative and competitive federalism.

Among larger states, Jharkhand, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh have shown the annual increment in the performance.
