Chaitra Navratri 2020: How we can celebrate day 1 of nine-day festival

Lucknow: Navratri is the sacred festival of Goddess Durga. It is a nine-day long festival, during which devotees worship nine forms of Goddess each day to gain prosperity, spirituality. Two types of Navratri- Chaitra Navratri and Sharad Navratri is predominantly celebrated in several States such as Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh. 


According to the mythological stories, Mahisaasur- who attacked the earth, heaven and hell was killed by Goddess Durga. On the first day(Kalasthapan), Maa Shailputri-one of the form of Goddess Durga is worshipped. Shailputri is an absolute form of mother nature. Worshipping the goddess Shailputri brings wealth, prosperity and success. 


Here's, how first day of Navratri is celebrated in North India: 


Devotees wake up early Morning and take bath after that they clean puja room and decorate their homes with flowers and mango leaves. They perform puja by chanting mantra and hymns. Later, they visit temple to worship diety. People perform Kalasthapana by placing idol in puja room, offering roli, akshat, fruits and flowers to the goddess by chanting || Ya Devi Sarvabhutesu Maa Shailaputri Rupena Samsthita |

Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah ||


Devotees put mango twig and coconut over Kalash and light a Diya using ghee. Later, offer kheer as a bhog to appease the goddess.
