COVID-19: Yogi Adityanath govt imposes ban on Gutkha and Paan Masala

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed a ban on the manufacture and sale of Gutkha and pan masala. The UP CM Yogi Adityanath directed to immediately ban use of gutkha, pan masala other chewing tobacco inside all the government buildings in the state.


Avinash Awasthi, Additional Chief Secretary Home told that, since the coronavirus was found to be active in saliva, the government could order to ban the use of pan masala and Gutkha as people have tendency to spit it out anywhere. 

As is known, when Yogi Adityanath took over as CM in March 2017. He has banned Gutkha and pan masala from all the state government offices. The CM visited government offices and was furious to see tabacoo stains all over the walls and corners. However, later government employees were back to chewing tobacco, gutkha and paan masala.


This time, the government is serious about the implementation in view of the coronavirus outbreak.
