Sunil Chhetri condoles death of former Indian Football captain PK Banarjee

New Delhi: Indian Footballer Sunil Chhetri on Friday expressed his deep condolences on the Demise of former Indian Footballer Pradeep Kumar Banarjee. Banarjee passed away at a private hospital in Kolkata after a prolonged illness. 


Sunil Chhetri took his Twitter handle to express his feelings, he wrote, " I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. PK Banerjee as well as to the entire Indian football fraternity. He was a pioneer in every sense of the word, and his achievements will forever have a place in Indian footballing history." 



Banarjee was an integral part of India's gold medal-winning team in the 1962 Asian Games. He even scored in the final against South Korea as India fought against all odds and scripted a history in Jakarta with 2-1 points. He represented India in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and played a important role in victory against Australia in the quarter-finals where India eventually finish fourth. Predeep Kumar Banarjee was the first footballer to receive the Arjuna Award (in 1961) and the most prestigious award Padma Shri in 1990.
