New Delhi: Union Telecom Minister, Ravi Shankar Prashad in ongoing session in Parliament, responded to the public sector undertaking BSNL.

He stated that, "We firmly believe that the existence of a public sector undertaking like BSNL is important for both public service and fairness in the entire system of communication. BSNL had to face bad times. It looked positive in 2014-15, 2015-16. "

Further he added, "Our government has taken a decision to revive both BSNL and MTNL as they do public service in floods, earthquakes etc."

In his statement, the Union Minister added, " 74% of revenue for BSNL employee, 87% in MTNL, 3% in Airtel, 6% in Vodafone and 4% in Jio. We had to think afresh for this. About one lakh employees have volunteered for VRS and we are giving them the package. As far as 4G is concerned, the cabinet is committed to giving 4G. It will be given soon. "
