New Delhi. Various measures are being adopted in India to restrain the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in the country. Political meetings, all kinds of public gatherings and sporting events have been suspended or pushed to an indefinite period. As per the statistics of the website Corona Tracker, the confirmed cases of the lethal virus have reached 1,56,134 globally.

Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI have suspended the commencement of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to April 15. The final decision in this regard will be taken keeping in view the safety of players and fans as the utmost priority. Any decision will be arrived at after monitoring the situation closely and reassessing every week. IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel on Saturday, met with the representatives of 8 franchises in Mumbai to hold deliberations in context to managing the IPL 2020 edition, in the wake of the ongoing crisis.

Several dates were discussed among the franchises to kick-off the upcoming edition. April 15, April 21, April 25, May 1 and May 5 and are the five tentative dates and one among them will probably be IPL 13's starting date if the situation improves in the near future. The governing body has however, clearly stated that with IPL being a long tournament, it has to begin by April 25. If it goes beyond that, accommodating all games would become a prime issue as all the 8 teams play each other twice (one away and one home game). Amid the growing coronavirus concerns, plenty of bilateral cricketing ties have already been postponed or called off altogether; for instance, England's tour of Sri Lanka, Australia-New Zealand Chappell-Hadlee Trophy, India-South Africa ODI series.
