Justice Banumathi fainted while delivering order on Dec 2012 gangrape case

Lucknow: The Supreme Court on Friday has dismissed the plea by Vinay Sharma, one of the four convicts in the December 2012 Nirbhaya ganagrape-murder case. 


The apex court also rejected Vinay's contention that he is mentally ill and says that his reports suggest that he is completely stable. The court also mentioned that all the necessary documents were placed before the President, who then rejected the mercy plea by reveiwing the documents carerfully.

Meanwhile, Justice R Banumathi on Friday collapsed while hearing the summision made by the center on seprate execution of convicts in the December 2012 gangrape case. Immediately she was taken to her chamber by the other judges and the Supreme Court staff. The bench was adjourned and said that the order will be released later. However, Justice Banumati regained consciousness few minutes later in her chamber.
According to the doctors, she was running on medications and was suffering from the high fever.

In the meantime, the court said that there was no ground of judicial review of the rejection of mercy petition made by the death row convict. After the proceeding, Delhi court allowed to seek fresh date for execution of the case and issuing death warrants against the four death-row convicts.
