Washington. Taking a U-turn in Kashmir dispute issue, the US President Donald Trump has stated that the mediation proposal for resolving the dispute in Valley stands null and void. Previously, the US Prez has offered mediation in this matter which was rebuffed by India. India has clearly notified that the Kashmir problem is an internal matter of the country and the necessary communication to resolve the same will be held only between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the Indian Ambassador to the US said, "President Trump has made it very clear that his offer to mediate on Jammu and Kashmir is dependent on both India and Pakistan accepting it. Since India has not accepted the offer of mediation, he has made it clear that this is not on the table anymore.”

The US President had initiated a massive controversy after stating that PM Modi had requested US intervention in resolving Kashmir matter. Trump had received huge flak from various quarters following his comment with India categorically dismissing his claim.
On August 2, in a meeting with US secretary of state Mike Pompeo, the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had mentioned, "Have conveyed to American counterpart @SecPompeo this morning in clear terms that any discussion on Kashmir, if at all warranted, will only be with Pakistan and only bilaterally."
