"J&K reorganisation does not violate LoC" : Indian envoy to US

SUKIRTI MISHRA 13/08/2019 10:25 AM

Washington. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the Indian ambassador to US, notified US that reorganisation of Kashmir is India's internal matter, which under no circumstance violates the international Line of Control (LoC). Shringla further said that Article 370 was 'hankering' with the growth of the state. "India has reorganised the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, with legislative assembly and council (in Kashmir). It does not in any way impinge the border of Jammu and Kashmir and international Line of Control and is, therefore, an internal matter of the country," he said.

Shringla told the sources, "We have taken this decision because we have found that over 70 years, the development in the state has been hankered by the so-called 'special status' that the state enjoyed. It is a temporary provision under the Constitution and now the intention is to ensure that good governance and socio-economic justice reaches the state."
He informed about the temporary nature of the current restrictions in the Kashmir Valley, which will be beneficial in countering across the border infiltrations.
Evidently, India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by scrapping Article 370 in a Presidential notification, last week. The decision was accompanied by the passage of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019, dividing the state in two Union Territories- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
