Poorva Express rail accident: 12 coaches derail near Kanpur, 14 injured

Kanpur. Railway officials have reported that 12 coaches of Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express have been derailed near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh in the wee hours of Saturday, 20th April. The mishap occurred near Rooma railway station near Kanpur Nagar District at around 1 am when the train was going to New Delhi. The cause of the derailment has not been ascertained yet. The 12 coaches consisted of 10 passenger coaches, 1 pantry and 1 power car. The train was running at a speed of 100 km/hour.


Sources have reported the injury of around 14 people who have been admitted to a hospital in Kanpur. North-Central Railways Allahabad public relation officer issued a statement informing that the first few coaches of the train which did not derail were brought to Kanpur Central. All the passengers were sent to Delhi via a special train at 5.45 am.


Gaurav Krishan Bansal, the CPRO Northern Central Railway, told the sources that no loss of life has been reported in the accident. Railways have diverted 13 trains and canceled 1 train. Mr. Bansal informed diverted rail traffic will be restored soon. All senior rail and administration officers have reached on spot.
