Five killed, ten others injured after boiler explodes in Bihar

Gopalganj (Bihar), Dec 21: Five workers were killed and ten others seriously injured when an explosion ripped apart a boiler at Samamusa sugar mill in Bihar’s Gopalganj area late last night, police said here today.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar while condoling the death of the workers has announced an ex-gratia of rupees four lakh to the kin of deceased workers, alongwith a high-level inquiry.

The inquiry will be conducted by principal secretary of cane industry department S Siddharth and principal secretary of labour resource department Deepak Kumar Singh.
Initial reports suggested the boiler exploded due to overheating.
The death toll is likely to mount as many workers are still trapped inside the mill.

All the injured patients are admitted to Sadar Hospital, Gopalganj.

“Critically injured patients are immediately shifted to Patna”, said a police official.
Relief and rescue work continues till last report came in.

Agitated with the incident local residents vandalised the factory and owner's vehicle on fire.

"The CM has directed for proper treatment of the injured and prayed for their speedy recovery," a statement issued by CM secretariat said.
