BJP in search for new Goa CM, Manohar Parrikar's health deteriorates

Panaji. BJP has begun its search for the name of a new Chief  Minister as the news regarding the deteriorating health condition of  Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikar came into limelight. A day post Congress staked claim to for the government in the State, the BJP’s ally, Goa Forward Party (GFP) is building pressure, stating it will reconsider its support in case of any “eventuality”.


BJP MLAs informed the party leaders that the chief minister should be from within the legislators. At present, BJP has 13 MLAs, inclusive of Parikar, in the 40 Member House.

Vijay Sardesai, the chief of Goa Forward Party said, “Parrikar’s health is a cause of political concern. The BJP is also discussing possibilities, so we, a group of MLAs from our party and independents, met him. We supported Manohar Parrikar and not the party. So in case of any eventuality, we will rethink (our support to the BJP).

The central leadership of BJP is likely to send its representatives to Goa on Sunday to discuss and finalise with the MLAs, a new chief ministerial candidate. A meeting with three independents and coalition partners – Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Goa Forward Party.

“Nothing will change till the chief minister is alive”, deputy speaker Michael Lobo told the reporters. Satish Dhond, the organising secretary of BJP state met GFP chief for the discussions at BJP legislators meeting.
